Burkina Faso Mobile Unit
Gift Of Sight
In 2014, Humanity First established it's first mobile eye surgery unit in Burkina Faso, based in Ouagadougou. The unit was constructed in the Middle East, and contains state of the art diagnostic and surgical equipment and backup power.
Since deployment, the unit has been used in many regions of the country including Leo, Yaya, Bobo Diolasso and elsewhere. In the first few months, the unit had to be modified for stability, dust prevention and to remain robust despite transport across treacherous roads. The unit can now be used across the country, and is sometimes called upon near existing clinic facilities which suffer regular power outages, whereas our unit can keep running using its backup power generator.
