Staywell in Surrey

Community Care

The UK is seeing a growing older population, many of whom face loneliness through isolation and mobility issues.

Humanity First was delighted to be able to partner with Staywell in Surrey, to add value to services being provided to older people for over 70 years. Staywell has centres in New Malden, Kingston and Banstead and offers a wide range of existing services. HF is providing volunteers who are being trained and security cleared to provide befriending services at home in a safe and controlled way. HF has also been providing a range of free activities for older people jointly with Staywell including lunches, coach trips and poetry classes. The reaction has been very positive.

Silver Sunday 2017

As part of the Silver Sunday celebrations, Humanity First organised a Curry Lunch in Kingston for 35 older people on Sunday 1st October. Then, on October 5th, 52 older people were taken to visit Kew Gardens, which is a botanical garden in southwest London that houses the "largest and most diverse botanical and mycological collections in the world." The day out was a great success with a complimentary tour around the whole park.

Staywell Poetry Masterclasses

Eight participants were taken on a specially designed course which was aimed at combating the early onset of dementia through applying therapeutic and literary techniques in each session. The project reached its climax with a poetry showcase, with each participant reciting their own piece
of poetry on stage.
