The Gambia - Clinical Training
In agreement with the Ministry of Health of The Gambia in West Africa, HF teams from the UK and Denmark have been visiting to train local doctors, midwives and nurses in a range of clinical skills covering life support, cardiac, emergency medicine and dental.
The team also trained local surgeons to perform AV Fistula procedures for the first time, ensuring that patients can get the procedure locally without having to travel to neighbouring Senegal. Apart from the training, the teams have also been able to renovate wards in Banjul and Talinding, and provide donated equipment such as de-fibrilator units. In recent years, 25% of clinicians in the country have been trained by HF in some elements of their practice.
